It’s not a programme of exercises, like those you learn in a class of Yoga, Pilates, or in the gym. The Alexander Technique teaches you to be conscious of how you move and choose, in every moment, how you want to move, in such a way that it’s not converted into a series of automatic mechanical like movements.
The object of the technique is to make good use of oneself, thus to be able to prevent pain or illness; and give ourselves autonomy to be responsible for our state of being. To be conscious of our bad habits is the first stage in the change to wellbeing. Nevertheless, the majority of us (especially in Spain) haven’t been educated to prevent, only to cure.
